Mortgage Refinance Applications Jump 5.1% as 30-Year Fixed Rates Hit Monthly Low
Refinance applications jumped 5.1% as the average 30-year fixed mortgage rate for conforming loans of $806,500 or less fell to 6.42%. This is the lowest value in roughly a month. Overall mortgage applications increased 1.8% in the week ended April 10, ending a five-week decline. The decline in rates was driven by the evolving situation in the Middle East and its impact on energy and commodity prices. Purchase applications fell 1% and remained below last year's level for the second consecutive week.
