Job security fears drive 36% of workers to stall major purchases

Thirty-six percent of American workers are delaying or canceling plans to buy a home or car due to concerns over job security. Seven percent of workers are canceling these plans entirely, while 30% are delaying them. This shift in consumer behavior is a result of a feeling of insecurity in the workplace. Twenty-seven percent of workers say they are either somewhat or very concerned about their job security, and 32% say they are more concerned than they were six months ago. These fears are primarily driven by company performance, cited by 29% of workers who are concerned, and the impact of artificial intelligence, cited by 18%.
