Underage Gambling Lawsuit Alleges Coinbase Facilitated Illegal Transfers to Stake Platforms

Source: DojiDoji Data Terminal

A New York resident is seeking damages and legal action against Coinbase and Stake platforms, claiming the companies facilitated underage gambling through a coordinated pipeline. The plaintiff says he used Stake.com and Primedice from ages 13 through 19, exhausting his savings and turning to his father’s credit card after running out of money. He claims this led to academic failure, strained family relationships, and the need for ongoing therapy and financial oversight from his father.

Coinbase Options Market Signals Downside Protection Demand

Coinbase shares fell $2.85 to $193.04. Options volume reached 87,000 contracts, which is well above average. The put/call ratio dropped to 0s.5, compared to a typical level of 0.77. Implied volatility (IV30) fell 0.98 to 76.71, which remains in the highest 10% of the past year. This volatility suggests an expected daily move of $9.33. The put-call skew steepened, indicating increased demand for downside protection.

The lawsuit names Coinbase as a central enabler, alleging the exchange allowed users to convert dollars into cryptocurrency and send funds to offshore gambling accounts. It says Coinbase ignored warning signs and continued processing gambling-related transactions despite New York restrictions. The plaintiff also claims Stake-related companies used influencer marketing and livestreams to target minors.

Coinbase Institutional Custody Growth Offsets Regulatory and Legal Risks

Institutional ownership of Coinbase reaches a record high in 2026. The company serves as the primary custodian for most U.S. spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs. This institutional growth is supported by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency granting conditional approval for Coinbase to charter the Coinbase National Trust Company, which improves the company's federal regulatory framework for digital asset custody. COIN shares currently trade within a $183.80 to $193.05 range.

The case seeks damages and injunctive relief under New York common law and consumer protection statutes. A jury trial has been demanded.

Coinbase Derivatives Market Maker Program Targets XRP Liquidity

Institutional investors trading XRP derivatives will face tighter spreads through a new liquidity initiative at Coinbase Derivatives. The platform has filed a market maker program for XRP and other crypto derivatives with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, effective May 1 through November 30. To participate, eligible traders must agree to make two-sided markets, a requirement designed to increase liquidity in the exchange's central limit order book. This mechanism reduces the gap between bid and ask prices for institutional participants.
