US waiver allows Indian refiners to resume Iranian oil imports
Indian refiners are resuming purchases of Iranian crude oil under a temporary waiver granted by the United States last month. Two very large crude carriers, each carrying 2 million barrels of oil, have reached Indian ports. Indian Oil Corp, the country's top refiner, bought Iranian oil loaded on the Jaya, a vessel under US sanctions. Reliance Industries has also purchased Iranian oil from the vessels Kaviz, Lenore, Felicity, and Hedy, all of which are more than 20 years old and under US sanctions. This marks the first time India has received Iranian oil cargoes since May 2019. The waiver expires on April 19.
