UK Defence Spending Faces £28 Billion Shortfall Despite GDP Targets
Military leaders believe the UK faces a £28 billion shortfall in defence funding. This follows government commitments to reach 2.5% of GDP on defence starting April next year, and a target of 3% of GDP in the next parliament. Military leaders have been asked to find £3.5 billion in savings this year. The Treasury has proposed increasing the budget by less than £10 billion over the next four years.
