PAWS Reduces Adoption Fees to Clear Shelter Space After Garage Collapse
Residents interested in adopting a pet this weekend can pay what they wish as an adoption fee at the Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society's Old City location. Standard fees usually range from $75 to $200 for cats and $150 to $300 for dogs. The price reduction is a response to overcrowding at the adoption center at 2nd and Arch streets. Dozens of dogs and cats were moved there after a parking garage for the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia collapsed in Grays Ferry, forcing the evacuation of the PAWS facility at 2900 Grays Ferry Ave due to structural instability. The reduced fees are intended to relieve overcrowding and reduce animal stress.
