Kraken's Insider Access Breach Exposes 2,000 User Accounts
Approximately 2,000 client accounts were viewed during two separate incidents of insider access involving support staff. The exchange's Chief Security Officer, Nick Percoco, stated that no systems were breached and funds remained secure. The incidents escalated when a criminal group demanded payment, threatening to release internal videos showing internal systems and client data. Kraken refused to negotiate with the extortionists. The exchange is working with federal law enforcement across multiple jurisdictions to identify the individuals involved. Affected users received notifications from Kraken.
