Kraken Refuses Extortion Demands After Insider Access to 2,000 Accounts
Approximately 2,000 client accounts were potentially viewed after rogue employees gained inappropriate access to limited client support data. The breach affected 0.02 percent of Kraken's total client base. These incidents occurred in February 2025 and a more recent second instance. In both cases, Kraken identified the employees, revoked their access and notified affected clients. A criminal group subsequently threatened to release videos of internal systems to media outlets and social media unless demands were met. Kraken will not pay or negotiate with the individuals involved.
