Geopolitical Chaos Drives ASX Equities Trading Volumes 46% Higher
ASX shares surged 8% this week, rising from $52.77 to $57.01, as trading volumes reached record levels. Total equity trade volumes on the exchange rose 46% to 66.9 million in March, compared to 45.9 million in March 2025. Average daily trades jumped 39% to 3.04 million as investors adjusted their positions. The average trade size fell 8% to $3,532. This activity was driven by a Middle East conflict and concerns over interest rate hikes. On March 20, the day the US and Israel struck Iran's South Pars gas field, the ASX recorded an all-time record of $27.1 billion in equities traded.
