Crypto Scam Victims in Stark County Recover $300,000 Through TRACE Team Enforcement
The Stark County TRACE team has returned $300,000 to victims of cryptocurrency scams. The team seized over $1 million in stolen assets through specialized technology and court orders. Victims are often targeted with urgent phone scams, such as being told they owe money to the Social Security Administration. Criminals use bulk transactions and small transfers to obscure the flow of stolen funds. The TRACE team works with law enforcement agencies lacking the resources to track crypto fraud independently. Ohio House Bill 648, currently under consideration, aims to regulate crypto ATMs and limit losses in the first 72 hours of a scam.
