Bithumb Seeks Asset Freeze to Recover 7 Bitcoin from $42 Billion System Error
Users who have not returned funds from a Bithumb system error now face a provisional asset freeze. The exchange filed for the freeze after a technical mistake on February 6 triggered the transfer of 620,000 Bitcoin, worth approximately $42 billion at the time, instead of a planned reward distribution of 620,000 won to 249 winners. Bithumb reversed most transactions within minutes and retrieved 99.7% of the assets the same day. The exchange replenished 1,788 BTC that had been offloaded. Seven Bitcoin remain unaccounted for.
