Albertsons opioid settlement triggers $480.8 million quarterly loss

Albertsons reported a $480.8 million loss for the fourth quarter, driven by a $600 million impairment charge. The loss follows a settlement framework reached to resolve opioid-related claims brought by state, local, and tribal governments. Under the terms of the deal, Albertsons will pay $774 million over nine years. The lawsuits accused the company of failing to stop the overuse of prescription opioids in the US.
