Alabama Bans Surprise Billing for Ground Ambulance Services
Ground ambulance providers in Alabama may now only charge patients the in-network cost-sharing amount specified in their insurance contracts. The restriction follows the passage of SB 269, which prohibits the surprise billing of insurance enrollees by requiring providers to accept health insurer reimbursements as payment in full. The law also mandates that both healthcare insurers and ground ambulance services submit operational and financial reports to the Alabama Department of Public Health.
