A £1 million corporate pledge reaches 17,500 children in poverty — not through financial returns, but direct grants, green spaces, and emergency tools shaped by children themselves

Seventeen thousand five hundred children and their families in some of the UK’s most disadvantaged communities will receive direct financial aid, emergency preparedness tools, and access to green spaces through a £1 million partnership between Admiral Group and Save the Children. Wales, home to 200,000 children in poverty — the highest rate in the UK — is the initial focus, where climate-related emergencies are deepening food and energy insecurity. Children in poor housing face heightened risks from flooding, damp, extreme heat, and air pollution, while safe play areas and nature access remain out of reach for many. The partnership funds two child-led programmes: Voice and Light, operating in Cardiff, Rhondda Cynon Taf, and Neath Port Talbot, works directly with children and families to identify what support they need during emergencies. That input will shape child-friendly resources — animations, books, toolkits, and digital tools — designed for use in schools and by policymakers across the UK. Families in the programme will also receive immediate aid through grants and vouchers for essentials like food, clothes, books, and toys. The second initiative, Seedlings of Change, empowers children to design and lead local climate and nature projects that create safer, greener community spaces for play and learning. Beyond Wales, Admiral Group is joining Save the Children’s Humanitarian Network, a corporate alliance that mobilises resources and innovation for global emergency response. The partnership’s goal extends beyond aid: to influence local and national policy by ensuring children’s voices inform resilience planning and climate action.
